Poker History
Like many other games poker too was a game that took its birth as a mode of passing time but later on became a huge rage and still continues to be so.
Poker is believed to have started from a Chinese game. The game was usually played using dominoes. There is another lobby of historians who say that Poker was a game that was played in Persia. Poker was then called nas. Nas was a card game that used 5 suits of 5 cards each.
Then an English game called primero, which means primera in Spanish, is considered to be Poker's ancestor. The value of the hands in the descending order was this:
Chorus: Four of a kind (e.g., four sixes)
Fluxus: Four cards of the same suit, equivalent to a poker flush (e.g., 2, 4, A, and 6 of hearts)
Supremus: Ace, 6, and 7 of the same suit (e.g., A, 6, 7 of spaces, 3 of diamonds).
Primero: One card of each suit (e.g., 3 of hearts, 5 of diamonds, K of spades, 7 of clubs)
Numerus: Two or three cards of the same suit. This is by far the most common hand (e.g., Q, 4, 6 of clubs, and 4 of spaces).
The French then introduced their version of poker game called the 'Poque'. Poque was a fun game, which involved a lot of betting and bluffing. Though new to the world then, the game was interesting and gathered fans all along its journey. It traveled from Ohio to New Orleans to even the Wild West. Gambling wasn't legal in Nevada in 1910. After a lot of negotiations gambling was made legal in the early 30s. Finally in the year 1931 casinos gambling too was made legal in Nevada.
